Huge Volleyball weekend coming up in the Faroe Islands

Many happy Volleyball players will be taking centre stage this coming weekend in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands. The annual national cup finals are due to take place on Saturday and Sunday and it is with great excitement and joy that teams from all the islands composing the archipelago will be meeting and fighting for the trophies at stake.

The national cup finals are not just open to senior players. As many as 10 youth teams in different groups have played their way towards the highlight of the season and, as something new this year, 34 Kids Teams featuring players aged 5-11 will participate in the finals as well. All matches will take place in a state-of-the-art new national sports hall in Tórshavn, where the Faroese Volleyball Association will prepare a beautiful and professional set-up around all the matches on schedule.

The greatest interest is obviously for the senior events. There are some very exciting matches coming up this weekend where the men’s team from ÍF Fuglafjørður meet SÍ from Sørvang. In the women’s final, Drattur from Miðvágur play Fleyr from Tórshavn. These are four clubs with an extremely long history in Faroese Volleyball, and all four clubs have won the cup finals over the last three years.

“It is very hard to point out a clear favourite in these two matches,” said the President of the Faroese Volleyball Association, Mr Magnus Tausen. “I see these as two very close games where small things can be crucial, so I look forward to some very exciting and interesting matches.”

TV and radio will broadcast both matches nationwide to confirm the high interest people living in the Faroe Islands have for Volleyball. Click here for the live streaming of the ‘senior’ national cup finals.
