San Marino claim second place at IX ‘Memorial Alessandro Casadei’

The ninth edition of the ‘Memorial Alessandro Casadei’, the tournament named after the Premiazione San Marino 2former setter and captain of the Sammarinese national team who passed away in 2009 following a car accident, took place on December 19 and 20 in Serravalle. The event featured three teams from the Italian B league and the men’s national team of San Marino. The hosts eventually settled for the second place after losing the final to the team of Forlì 0-3 (20-25, 24-26, 19-25).

“We played two good matches,” said San Marino coach Stefano Mascetti. “Forlì are one of the top teams in the Serie B and it is quite normal that they beat us – even though they did not thrash us. We played a good match in the semis as well and I am happy with the way the team performed. All players on the roster could get some on-court time and I am especially pleased with this because they need to get experience and improve their game. I also liked the attitude shown by the team throughout the tournament.”
