Cypriot team reach 3rd round in Champions League

Cypriot side Omonia Nicosia have reached the 3rd Round of the Men’s 2018 Champions League with a defeat over their Montenegro opponents.

In the final match of the day Omonia NICOSIA got the two sets they needed to secure their place, despite having a brief scare losing the 2nd set to 14 points.

Jedinstvo Bemax BIJELO POLJE (MNE) vs. Omonia NICOSIA (CYP) 2-3 (24-26, 25-14, 18-25, 28-26, 9-15)

In a game where Omonia NICOSIA needed two sets to progress, that was what they got.  They took the first by just a couple of points, but that did not deter the home team who bounced back to take the 2nd set by 11 points.  However, knowing they were just one set from a match against JASTRZEBSKI Wegiel, the Cypriot team came out confidently in the 3rd set and got what they came for 25 points to 18.  After this, the level of both teams dropped and after an up and down set the home team took the match into a 5th set which they failed to take – meaning the travelling team came away with another victory.
